Re: TMR-143 The first three years of Blue Series
More than 4 years after the release of this record I am a proud and happy owner.
YES!
It was very interesting to read the whole topic and see how many things have changed since then.

I found the secret of the 3 RPM. Thought I was the first. I was not. But since there were pioneers 7 years before I discovered gold, I'll let them tell it.

Which software did you use to slow it down on playback? I know what the hidden thing is, maybe I can finally listen to mine at some point.

Re: TMR-143 The first three years of Blue Series
Swell. Let’s post it on Facebook, but bury the lede here.
In a recent interview Blackwell said there were some undiscovered secrets on the “First Three Years” 3 RPM release. So, after all these years, I finally pulled the trigger and bought one. I had to figure it out. I ripped the vinyl to my computer, slowed down the speed and listened intently to every track. I was looking for something subtle and, who knows, I may have missed something small. But I found a couple bits on the release I hadn’t heard about before and one of them was a cool surprise.
SPOILERS. STOP READING NOW IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW THE SECRETS OF THE UNIVERSE.

Firstly, the record begins with a voice saying “Go ahead. Do it” and ends with the same voice saying “well-played”. Thought that was a nice touch. The track listing is wrong on Discogs. I’ll correct it either tonight or tomorrow.
But the big news is track B18, smack dab in the middle of the Insane Clown Posse tracks, is the first ever appearance on vinyl (to my knowledge) of the White Stripes performing “Love Potion #9”! I have no idea how this hasn’t been discovered all these years. I guess because most people have better things to do on a Monday afternoon than trying to find secrets on an obscure record. Indeed, I had nothing better to do. And now we know.
Edit: This sounds like the studio version. Definitely not the live version that was on the Vault single.
“I’M GONNA KILL MY BROTHER JACK
I’M GONNA KILL MY BROTHER JACK
I’M GONNA STAB HIM RIGHT IN THE BACK
PUT HIM IN THIS HOLE
AND HE’LL NEVER COME BACK
‘MEMBER THAT?”

I was going to post that here but since I realized I didn't discover it I was going to give the privilege to those who did. I posted on Facebook before I knew it had already been discovered.
But there we go! "Love Potion #9" is on the 3 RPM!

I used Logic Pro X. Flex time gave me precision control over the speed.runofthemill wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 2:41 pm Which software did you use to slow it down on playback? I know what the hidden thing is, maybe I can finally listen to mine at some point.

That is pretty sweet. I am not at all surprised that they would do something like this.shaneoftheroad wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 4:54 pm I was going to post that here but since I realized I didn't discover it I was going to give the privilege to those who did. Re: TMR-143 The first three years of Blue Series
FYI, I was just informed by a highly reputable source the version of "Love Potion #9" on the 3RPM is NOT the studio version because there's no such thing as a studio version. It's from a Gold Dollar live recording in August 1997.
I stand irrefutably corrected.
