From the recent NME article--I Ate The Walrus wrote:Hip Eponymous Poor Boy:
So I get into the
game, but always keep it the same
And I'll be usin' your name, but they'll be yellin' at me
"Poor boy, boy"
But I'll be happy for you, cause you got nothin' to do
And I'll be
singin' the blues, walkin' around singin' "Poor boy, boy"
And you'll be watching me girl, takin' over the world
Let the stripes unfurl,
gettin' rich singin' "Poor boy, boy"...
Sounds like he is talking about TWS to me.
Interesting, I just noticed that Take Me With You When You Go is the only song he doesn't discuss in that article. Wonder how it got left out. When I wrote "let the stripes unfurl", I was talking about the American dream... not Meg. But I don't mind that metaphor, because it also deals with the subject, which is about hip white people selling authenticity through blues music.

This song hit me so hard. It sounds like a dream, if ever one could capture the perfect sound of a lucid dream this would be the ONE. It so so uncomprehendingly beautiful.12stars wrote:JW's Blunderbuss
Had my dream I held your hand on that broad avenue
we crossed the road, we never spoke to another as we flew
We left your man in (drag?) laughing there at us
Romantic bust, blundersome, explosive blunderbuss
An ancient grand hotel of persian red and ivory
When your man would turn his head I see you look at me
Pools of brown and sea of red and demons in your pocket
That sang romance (before we ?)danced inside a silver locket
Corner exit not tall enough to walk out not standing straight
Designed by men so that ladies would have to lean back in their gait
You grabbed my arm and left with me but you were not allowed to
You took me to a private place where we would blend into
Such a trick to pretend not doing what you want to
Seems like everybody does this every waking moment
(Not complete, sorry if some stuff incorrect, correct where needed)

'Using your name' (he took Meg's surname), I usually ignore the artists interpretation as gospel anyway. The beauty of lyrics like these is that they are open to a number of interpretations.Kali Durga wrote:From the recent NME article--I Ate The Walrus wrote:Hip Eponymous Poor Boy:

Very true. Still always interesting to me, though, to know what was in the writer's head, whether their idea &/or intent has any effect on my interpretation or not. Sometimes it gives depth to my own ideas, other times it's just a bit of fun extra detail.I Ate The Walrus wrote:'Using your name' (he took Meg's surname), I usually ignore the artists interpretation as gospel anyway. In the NME article, he says that this is one of the songs for which he forced himself to get out of bed after a dream and write down both the dream and the melody that had accompanied it. I agree that it's beautiful, but in a heart-breaking way.2crazikids wrote:This song hit me so hard. The only thing that bugs me about On and On and On is when the combined vocals kick in I have a devil of a time making out the words. Even though I'm already listening to the music, I'm still antsy for my record 'cause I want the liner notes and lyrics. Like, now.

Missing Pieces is great... leaves me with a really interesting mental image of Jack lying on a bed with no arms or legs and a missing ear, with blood all over the room... I think that track would have made a way more interesting video than Salteens...
And I'll add TMWYWYG to the list of awesomeness as well...jrfhoutx wrote: Missing Pieces, awesome. Freedom at 21, awesomer. Weep Themselves to Sleep, great. I'm Shakin', rockin'. Trash Tongue Talker, awesomeness...
