the possibilities are endless when it comes to why these women are so confident about what they say... Johnny Firecloud is the only guy reviewing Jacks stuff that is anywhere near the over the top stuff we have read at least 3 women write in associated press publications... so... call it what you will but there is a definite trend

You just noticed that? ;) I agree with you. He cracks me up.

I have a feeling it's not a big "fuck you" to the critics.

I see it sort of like putting offenders in the stocks right in the center of town. Whether you wanna throw a rotten apple at 'em is your decision.

Likewise. This thread just prompted a conversation between the wife and I.
The result? The job of the critic is pretty worthless. I've even written as such, in the past.

It gets lost that he's got a wicked sense of humor. I think he's just having fun, nothing too deep meant.

I've liked a lot of music and movies that critics said were no good.
My son reads Xbox magazine and buys games by how they are judged in the magazine and online, I've told him to take a chance on some of the games they said were no good but he was going to buy and he found some games he liked that he would not have bought based on critics.
Critics are like ...holes, everybody has one.

Emphasis on the wicked part. The feeling I get is that there's a fair amount of snark in the choice of those review quotes. Jack very obviously has a terrific sense of humor, but it often seems to have a sardonic edge so sharp that it could draw blood.

I used to go to the movies all the time (I no longer do because of work and the terrible twos, not because I don't like the movies anymore), and I learned very quickly that the opinions of critics are garbage. I also learned that for the most part if the critics gave a movie a bad review, I would probably enjoy the movie. I also learned which critics had similar tastes to mine and which were just bitter former film school students who over analyzed every part of a movie. They pay too much attention to minute details and not enough time just enjoying the film.

To me, music critics are the same way, too many of them over analyze everything and don't just enjoy the music. Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. Those who can't teach, become critics...
