Anyone else get a dirty UGWNL 180gram?

Post by mushmouth »

I recently picked up a third man/united pressing copy of UGWNL sealed on eBay. I put it on my turntable and by the end of the first track it looked like I had a dust ball under my stylus. I clean the stylus and play track 2, same thing, an oddly sized dark colored dust ball by the end of just one song.

Anyone else have that experience with their copy? May have gotten one from a day quality control was asleep at URP, I dunno. I'm going to clean it with a VPI before I play the rest. Just weird. Sealed.

Blah blah blah, talk about dirty records or go find another thread in General Discussion to derail.

I've had plenty of new sealed records come out of the package dirty, that's why you should clean even new sealed records before you play them. And if you have a VPI, I don't know why you wouldn't. After dropping $700 on an RCM, I'd think you'd use it to clean every single record you add to your collection the second it comes through the door...

I did do a discwasher cleaning before putting the side on. Rarely do I have to do a VPI cleaning out of a sealed jacket.

Edit to add: the vpi is belongs to a friend of mine. Every couple weeks I bring a stack over and we go on a cleaning spree. I have to buy one. They're amazing. Anyone tried one of those spin clean units?
