I always thought these guys were shit.

Saw them open once for someone (can't remember who) but I remember the lead singer being so pretentious when he came on stage, I thought surely they would be crazy as I had heard really good things about them...

...they were absolutely garbage. He sounded like shit, the guitar player was alright but the overall sound was just crap. Never listened to them again.

Ahh, I'm going to say 2006-ish? I think they opened for the Chili Peppers.

I also worked at a Music World (Music Retailer In Canada) when I was in college. They had an album that we played in the store regularly and i never liked it either...I don't know the name of the album but the cover had a dude's head in the driver's seat of a car or something...

early volta was a different thing altogether.
later volta is practically a different band.
i saw them when they were touring 'deloused' early on and it just blew me away. small, packed club. sweaty. greatness.
then, i saw them again at voodoo fest in 2008. i don't think there was a break the entire time. it was like 1 long song. very much an endurance test for my tastes and i didn't really like it. too 'prog rock'. they're absolutely incredible musicians, but cedric's high-pitched i-just-got-punched-in-the-nuts "NYYAAAAAAAH NYAAAWOOWWOWAAAAAAA" can get a tad annoying.

oh shit. Frances the Mute, that album is one of their best. my favorite of theirs.
i guess this band really isn't for you then.
i'm devastated by the news.

@Hamptonio
fucking lucky. i wish i would have seen them back in the day "De Loused" era or Frances. the first time i saw them was after bedlam in Oct 2008 at a festival. i thought the show was fucking awesome. they did play loooonnnnnggg as songs, but they were amazing. 30 minute Goliath, 30min Cygnus and about 15-20min Drunkship.
i can't believe they're "officially" over. it hurts

I've been a fan since I heard their first EP back when I was in the military. I heard about them on a late night radio program promoting "up and coming bands". Truely one of my favorites. Sadly I was only able to see them live in 2005 during the Frances tour. It's a shame that their over, but it's really for the best. Omar is a real talent and has morphed and changed as a musician so much that the later MV is completely different from the early MV. His recorded output has always been staggering so hopefully this will help to channel (or filter) his creativity.

Very cool, but man have you seen the price ?! I don't know about shipping in the US but for Canada the cheapest option is 17$.
60$ is the price of 2-3 LPs, not one...

yeah... it's pricey. it's a European label that always has pricier records.... then imported to the US... then sent to canada. But it's a label that puts out quality pressings, so it should sound better than the original picture disc.

My album link came this morning, really liking it. Hoping for a UK tour at the end of the year. Also, love The Mars Volta; managed to see them in 2011 and they were really good although I didn't know too much of their music at the time, since then Deloused in the Commatorium has become one of my favourite all time albums.
