Band of Skulls

Post by higherlimits »

Someone told me to listen to this band because "they sound just like the White Stripes" but I don't think they do at all... Am I missing something or am I just too used to the Stripes to be able to hear another band as 'almost the same'?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnW91MAIBhU

Anyways, what are your thoughts?

I've heard that they are 'just like the Dead Weather'... Should probably check them out, as they play in Norway in a week or so..

They are more like the Dead Weather - and in fact were the support band when TDW played
at the London Roundhouse recently.

Band of Skulls are my favorite band over the past year or so. I don't see any similarity to TWS, (other than great music) and a little comparison between Emma Richardson's voice and AM's, but that is about all. Their album IMHO blows Horehound or SOC away.

I have seen them three times this year, and if you get a chance I don't think you will regret it.

I said the dead weather sound like them. They do not sound like the dead weather.
I got that deep into variants once before with a collection, please shoot me if I go there again, it will drive you crazy I promise...
But nice stuff for sure.

Wicked song - never heard of them, but will be picking up an album now. That's why this site is so great - awesome place to find new bands that you wouldn't have heard otherwise.!.!

I don't know if anyone else has this experience, but every time I try and introduce someone to a really great band that sound nothing like the White Stripes, they say "oh yeah they sound just like the White Stripes." I try not to be a music snob, because most of my friends don't nerd-out as hard as I do, but it cracks me up that a lot of people (at least in my social circles) fall back on the White Stripes to describe a band, regardless of genre.

I'm certain Meg wishes she could sing like Emma. Don't hear it myself.
