Poster Storage

Post by Grimtale »

Now that you guys/gals have me collecting a few posters could you help me with proper storage techniques.

I've got plenty of basement storage space that is humidity controlled with a/c and heat. It's more around
how do I store them. Laying flat? On top of each other? In something to protect them? Rolled in a tube?

I ran out of wall space a long time ago as my wife loves to put out pictures of our three children leaving no
room for me to hang stuff like w/s posters :-) So I'll be forced to store some of them until my kids move out
and go away to college in a few years when I can then turn our dating/tv room into a collection room for me.

Just looking for some help from all you experts, I'm sure you know way more than me about this stuff.

This is what I use and I think a few others on here have bought one as well...7th son and anonymousbrunette I believe. I like it a lot, but it's always good to get second opinions.

If you want a case/portfolio, check out these two options. I've heard good things on both. Mine is the first one, 24"x36".

Second Opinion: I love these portfolios. Gawk at your posters in complete safety. The sleeves are drool & margarita resistant. I'd recommend a large one and something smaller for handbills, etc.

Sign up for the Art Supply Warehouse mailing list and get discounts by e-mail. I've gotten two 20 - 25% off coupons in the last two weeks - they last 24 to 48 hours. If you find the portfolios somewhere cheaper online, send them the link and they'll send you a code for $10 off your order (see their home page.) Lastly, you'll find a hard time beating the flat $6.95 shipping charge for something so large.

Enjoy!

http://www.jerrysartarama.com/ also stocks these items. I would compare prices with them.

I just realized that those are my posters pictured in the portfolio! (If I'm not mistaken.)

Thanks again Matt. They are in a good home :D

Grim, I'm in agreement with these fine folks, this portfolio is really top quality stuff. Just make sure you get one of those sales to save yourself a few bucks.

Thanks!
Do the sleeves meet the safety standards? Acid free etc?
Do they smell bad? (Well sorry to ask but I have bought some mylar kind of thing accessories for my collection and some had a bad smell of plastic)

The portfolio with rings is really perfect - hard, solid, without smell. They have archival sleeves - acid free, crystal clear, no smell. One portfolio can keep 25-30 sleeves. If you want I can send you some photos of mine
