If you place 32 metronomes on a static object and set them rocking out of phase with one another, they will remain that way indefinitely. Place them on a moveable surface, however, and something very interesting (and very mesmerizing) happens.

seems like the board they're sitting on picks up the movement from the majority of metronomes that are randomly already together, and that builds the slow momentum towards unity. this is the best youtube video I've seen in a while
also, the video isn't clear on what defines moveable. seems like the board only moves side to side, parallel to the movement of the metronome
I would speculate the metronomes only keep constant without external force, the moveable base counters the natural entropy by applying an outside force.
