I am in the need of advice. I use my Vestax handytrax almost every night in the patio during nice weather. Last night my beloved player started spinning at uneven speeds. Everyone sounds drunk on it. I looked for a replacement, but the company has gone out of business and they are harder to find. Would you recommend a different brand, or try to get this old guy fixed? It is a model without a usb.
Big thanks.

Well, after just about three years my AT-LP120 USB has kicked the bucket.
It was my first table and I was still new to all the in's and out's of playing records.
In short, the thing took a beating.
When it came time to look for a new table I wanted to upgrade a little.
I've heard a lot of chatter about the pro-ject audio tables and after a lot of research I decided to go with a red debut carbon DC.
From all I've read it seems like the best bang for my buck, and definitely an upgrade from the ATLP120.
It ought to be here within the week and I couldn't be more excited.
I'll be sure to share my first impression here.

At the moment I just have an Ion turntable plugged into a mini hifi system in my bedroom. I'm moving house next month so I'm using it as an opportunity to buy a whole new system, one that will act as my main source of audio in the new place. I'm trying to balance quality with budget, so I've settled on this for the table: http://www.amazon.co.uk/PRO-JECT-13202- ... Y2MTP00FPP

And possibly this receiver: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pioneer-A-10-K- ... AS8HGX1PWE
Or the new version, unless the only difference is the remote: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pioneer--20-K-5 ... s=receiver

Does anyone have any recommendations? I have very little knowledge about amps and speakers and such so it's hard to decide what'd be a good purchase.

Sony's High Resolution Players cost a small fortune !

I personally don't like all that "stuff" built in to my record player.
You need a power source, a motor, and a belt. The simpler the better.
Most LP's come with mp3's and some come with lossless files.

Technics is reviving the 1200 series turntable. Supposed to be out this spring/summer. That's a nice table for the $ If I wasn't looking to break the bank I would wait on it. Supposed to be built to a high standard. It's a direct drive. Some people say belt drive is better but I have an older 1200 and it sounds real good.

Lots to choose from now a days !

New ones, yeah. But when I find an old 3-lp Time-Life Country Western Classics set of Hank Williams in my local used record shop, you better believe I want to be able to rip those tunes to mp3 for listening in my car.

I've got so much music I don't worry about the ones I can't rip, just makes it that much better when I play the LP
at home. !
