Tip #1: Get your mouth up as close to the microphone as you can, or project like crazy.

When I was there it recorded at a faster speed than it plays back. The playback was therefore slightly lower in key and slower in tempo. I almost sounded drunk. haha

You don't have to get right up to the microphone. Just project, as Kali says. Two people might be rough. It was a tight squeeze for me but I am very tall. Remember, of course, you only get one take. So just take a deep breath and hit the gas.

Interesting. I guess they adjusted the speed for Neil's recordings?

I think it was 1 minute and 44 seconds when I was there for RSD. Either way, both close and way shorter than what Neil was recording. I wonder if they set up microphones in the booth and that is how they recorded.

One of the girls in the shop told me last fall that the record booth had become a "Frankenstein-creation" of old parts and new computerized ones. Perhaps they're able to adjust the recording time.

My recording was 1:44 exactly.

They did make recordings with mics in the booth (which I think are going to be released in the box set); but the songs on album itself are direct from the discs cut in the booth.

This article starts out being about Neil Young, but then ends up with a good bit of detail about the record booth-- http://www.freep.com/article/20140425/E ... nyl-record

They're starting to update the record booth page. A few of the recordings are up, including mine and Ara's. :D

How much time is on the clock to record? 2 minutes?

I'm writing a song and plan to record it the next time I'm at TMR. I also want to record the same song twice. How long does the process take and is there usually a line or would I be able to hold up the booth for the time I needed to record twice?

Thanks for any input.
Hey, it's just a fucking record. Chill.
