It is in fact technically the exact opposite, hence the separation of wavelengths of white light in a prism, or a rainbow. However, light and matter are somewhat different, black objects absorb all light that hit them whereas when you see a coloured object, it's in fact a particular wavelength of light reflecting back at your eyes while all other colours/wavelenghts are absorbed. Anyway, I've clearly gone too far. That said, black matter is in fact a combination of other colours that absorb all visible light, making it appear black because it reflects nothing. Therefore black is coloured vinyl. Q.E.D.
