It's like painting with words, from my favorite white stripes song.
Ah, it's the last verse of that one that gets me--

"The bus is warm and softly lit,
and a hundred people ride on it.
Guess I'm just another runnin' away."
Definitely my favorite...gives me goosebumps

"And if you're saying goodbye,
please don't you think me bitter
for recalling every rhyme,
from the book, the page, the line, the word, the letter."

One of my absolute favorites.
"And the message is clear: if we want Jack White as our hero, he will entertain, but not pander. We have to accept all his flaws, whims, caprices and manias as a critical, sometimes uncomfortable, part of the contract."

And there was a time when all I wanted
Was my ice cream colder and a little cream soda
Oh well, oh well

And a wooden box and an alley full of rocks
Was all I had to care about
Oh well, oh well, oh well

Now my mind is filled with rubber tires and forest fires
And whether I'm a liar
And lots of other situations
Where I don't know what to do
At which time God screams to me
There's nothing left for me to tell you

Super fucking melancholy reality right there. Kills me. Every. Damn. Time.

You want to take away from me
Things that are mine and it's not your right
I'll bet you wouldn't expect a fight,

Can it be that I don't want what you want?
And the only thing I could care for
Is a place in a home that is safe and warm
Don't believe the 60's was the golden age of pop. You glorify the past when the future dries up.

Too many, I agree. They seem so simple and lovely, but then you try to write lyrics of your own and realize that they are brilliant and heart-wrenching.

But I stayed in my lane
and played my game steady
and was thinking of a day
when I'd be too old to throw a ball this heavy

And he's lookin' at her the way I did
when I first met her
I could see in his face
white flowers
and cups of coffee
and love letters

I thought how much I hate when love makes me act this way
"I didn't mean to drown myself. I meant to swim till I sank - but that's not the same thing."

^^ No matter what else Jack does with his career, Hand Springs will always be one of the best things he's ever written. The rhyming scheme alone just trips me out.

"And with the weight of a feather it tore into me."
"And the message is clear: if we want Jack White as our hero, he will entertain, but not pander. We have to accept all his flaws, whims, caprices and manias as a critical, sometimes uncomfortable, part of the contract."

"Well, it's Easter morning now
And there's no one around.
So I unroll the cement
And walk into the town.
There was no one with me,
I was all alone.
And I fought piranhas,
And I fought the cold."

?
What am I missing? Are you hearing a different lyric than I am? Is this a case of "misheard lyrics"?
(misheard lyrics are ALWAYS entertaining, btw)

Why, did Johnny Walker write the whole song or something?
